What is an executive assistant?

An executive assistant in New York or further afield will provide high-level support to a senior individual or group of executives. An executive assistant’s job responsibilities will almost always include diary management, travel booking, scheduling meetings, inbox management and gatekeeping – occasionally they will also offer private support as well.

Many executive assistant jobs have also evolved into advisory positions, with a senior executive administrative assistant often required to input on strategy and advice, lead projects and represent their principal at meetings.

Depending on the size of the company, many EAs assist different divisions and help with marketing support, events, finance and operations as well.

The EA job, particularly at a C-Suite or board level, can be multi-faceted, challenging and a viable pathway for those looking to move into senior management positions.

How much does an EA earn?

In professional or financial services, an EA salary can range from $70,000-$110,000, while a senior EA can command anywhere between $100,000-$150,000.

That said, an EA’s salary is completely dependent on the industry, the individual’s experience and their scope of responsibility.
