Skills to be a Personal Assistant
Whilst there are plenty of PA jobs all over the world, the competition is also fierce for the most coveted positions, so having a robust skillset or breadth of experience will vastly improve your chance of landing your perfect personal assistant position.
The personal assistant role has changed dramatically since the 1980s. There is less call for those with traditional PA skills and a greater demand for candidates who have all-round capabilities, such as excellent organisational and project management skills and a strong knowledge of MS Office systems. In particular, all candidates should be confident in pulling together mail merges in Word; collating expenses and generating charts and tables in Excel and creating presentations or slideshows with custom animation in PowerPoint.
The most important skills for personal assistants in Zürich are strong working knowledge of MS Office – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint together with excellent communication skills including working knowledge of multiple languages.
In general, a support role will need fluency in both the local Swiss language – German, French or Italian as well as English. Additional Swiss or other languages, at an intermediate level, can be a distinct advantage.
