Hakkasan is ambient, and calm with beautiful aromas. No background music but this was not something that was missed. Impeccable service with a personal sommelier to tend to your wine needs.
Once seated, every table is treated to the expertise of a personal sommelier who is there to guide you through their wine list to find the perfect pairing. With multiple set menus and a la carte dishes to choose, you are not short on options.
On this occasion we decided on the plum blossom set menu. This is a set menu for two, consisting of two starters, 4 mains, 2 sides and a dessert, all for £80 each. We paired this with wonderful Italian Pinot Grigio, and I might add, our glass was never left empty. What was lovely about this experience was that we never once felt rushed to eat our meal. We could enjoy the food at a leisurely pace and after each course our plates were cleared and replaced with fresh ones, ready for our next dish.
The first starter to arrive to the table was a soft-shell crab and egg floss. In all honesty, this did have us concerned about what was to follow. It was an acquired taste that adjusted the flavour of our chosen Pinot Grigio.
However, arriving in tapas style this was followed closely by our second starter, a selection of dumplings which restored our faith in the menu. This selection had a variation of fish and veg dumplings garnished with caviar.
Next, the mushroom, and the monkfish were clear winners in our hearts. For the mains, chicken satay, beef stir-fry, spicy prawns, and silver cod arrived at the table. The roast breast of tender chicken came covered in the most divine homemade satay sauce and the beef arrived in a gorgeous egg noodle basket.
Alongside the chicken, the prawns were covered in a rich and creamy spicy sauce. Accompanying our mains were some marinated asparagus and perfectly fluffy jasmine rice.
To finish we had a deliciously creamy and light chocolate hazelnut parfait, presented in a hard white chocolate ball that was coated in raspberry flakes and drizzled with chocolate sauce.
When you enter the dark hallway of the restaurant you are greeted warmly. Guided down the stairs we were waited on by happy-to-help staff. The restaurant itself was calm and peaceful with wonderful acoustics.
This was a very enjoyable experience with impressive Asian dishes that are guaranteed to leave you wanting more.
