Live-In Nanny Jobs

A live-in nanny job is an excellent way to develop a close relationship with a family, building trust and stability. This type of role will involve extensive childcare, school drop offs (if of school age), encouraging excellent manners and behaviours, organising stimulating activities and playdates and acting as main point of contact if the children’s parents are unavailable.

In some cases, it can involve cooking light meals and snacks and running errands for the children, including appointments, travel packing and shopping.

Due to the nature of the role, a live-in nanny job’s hours may be longer than the standard eight hours, with shift work common.

Live-Out Nanny Jobs

A live-out nanny job offers an opportunity to be involved in the personal development of children in a day-to-day capacity. The role is quite similar to a live-in nanny, in that it involves overseeing the children’s routine, dropping them off to school or nursery, organising playdates and activities and setting a good example. It can also involve tidying of the children’s areas in the home, light cooking and helping with tasks like homework and after-school sport.

A live-out nanny can work in a part-time or full-time capacity, depending on the nanny contract. If working full-time, the hours generally follow that of a normal working day – a variation on 9am-6pm.

Regardless of the living arrangement, a nanny should be nurturing, enthusiastic, punctual, trustworthy, flexible and communicative and operate with common sense front of mind. A great UHNW nanny will also act with the highest levels of discretion, establishing a high level of trust.

Temporary nanny jobs

While longevity is important when it comes to nanny jobs, experienced childcare professionals may also look to temporary nanny jobs, helping a family over a holiday period or in cases of last-minute absences. These types of roles could be a few weeks or a few months and involve international or national travel and education experience. An international nanny may also be responsible for travel packing and supervising children on short and long-haul flights.

What qualifications are required for a nanny job?

Those looking for a nanny job in a private household must possess several qualifications. A first aid qualification, clean driving licence and extended DBS check are all considered standard for any nanny role.

A childcare qualification, such as a diploma from the Council for Award in Childcare and Education (CACHE), isn’t compulsory but can form a fantastic foundation should you be looking to move into this line of work. If you have a few years of experience, you could also look to build on your experience with a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).
